Lake County was named for the numerous lakes in the area; there are approximately 1,400 named lakes! South Lake is also home to Sugarloaf Mountain, the highest point in the peninsular Florida, at 312 feet above sea level.
On New Year's Day of 1888, Flora Call and Elias Disney were married in the Lake County town of Kismet, and they lived for a short time in the adjoining town of Acron, Florida. They were the parents of Walt Disney.
South Lake is also home to The Citrus Tower, which is a 226-foot-tall structure built in 1956. Once the most famous landmark of the Orlando area, it was built to allow visitors to observe the miles of orange groves surroudning it; developments in the citrus industry since its construction have left it providing a view of the suburban neighborhoods today. At more than 500 feet above sea level, it is the highest observation point in Florida.
Trails running through South Lake are both adult, kid, and pet friendly. The Lake Minneola Scenic Trail / Clermont Trail is very pleasant, mostly urban trail, with higher hills than any other rail trail in Florida. The lake views on the western side are spectacular during sunsets and very pretty the rest of the time.

It all started with two old friends sharing a good meal and a great bottle of wine. From that conversation, Macaroni Kid was born and we started publishing a weekly newsletter giving moms and dads the scoop on all the weekly events in their community. From there it's grown to hundreds of other communities across the Country.
We hope you enjoy it.
