Macaroni Momma Minute: One-of-a-kind

Creatacard App

By Melinda Gill August 31, 2014

Seventeen years. Seventeen years. That is how long ago I met my husband through mutual friends while out dancing. After a few dates of getting to know one another I learned a lot about him, I learned he was from Oklahoma and that he had transferred from Texas to Florida because of his job (many years earlier) with American Greetings where he worked on a system that I was extremely familiar with - the Creatacard program. Oh how I loved walking into my local store and not just picking out a card but creating my own. I spent countless hours at the kiosk making cards that were one-of-a-kind for that someone special. Little did I know that one day I would marry one of the guys that were part of the cards coming to life, and I have often wondered if he was nearby during those days in my early twenties while I was creating away for someone special… whilst I looked for someone extra special.

Here we are seventeen years later and we can take a part of David’s past and a part of mine and share that with our daughter through American Greetings Creatacard App designed exclusively for iPad.

“This groundbreaking app gives kids the tools they need to start a life-long friendship with their own imaginations,” said Eliza Wing, director of digital brands at American Greetings.  “As American Greetings prides itself on product innovation, we are thrilled to introduce Creatacard because it gives kids the unique opportunity to truly become greeting card artists.  We have taken the offline behavior of making cards that children have enjoyed for generations and created an app that brings this experience to an amazing new level with the option to professionally print the cards.”

Our Macaroni Kid wanted to create something special for her BFF Emma’s 7th Birthday, and what a wonderfully special card she made for her. From hearts to butterflies, sunshine and clouds, our little one enjoyed the simply wonderful and easy creative process of designing this adorable and one-of-a-kind gift for her friend. The masterpiece was shown to Emma at her birthday party, and she delighted in the creativity in knowing it will be mailed to her house direct from the American Greetings factory! Our daughter is excited to follow the journey of her design (for a mere cost of $3.49 per card plus postage) from its creation on the iPad through the factory all the way through the post office and delivery by using the adorable “Where’s My Card?” option. We look forward to Emma experiencing the excitement of seeing her card in a whole new way and will surely place this treasured keepsake in a special place as a reminder of her very best friend Kylee taking the few minutes to do something thoughtful and original for her birthday.

The brand new, first-of-its-kind Creatacard app exclusively for iPad is more than just a card app; it’s a creative laboratory for the budding artist that adds a dash of magic to the act of sending a card by allowing children to express themselves in the most imaginative ways possible.  This is the first and only app with the ability to breathe life into your child’s creations by bringing their imagination into the real world as a professionally printed greeting card.

As mobile ownership among kids has tripled over the past two years, parents and children can now enjoy time on the iPad together as a fun and formative shared experience instead of the tablet becoming another television.  Creatacard inspires little ones to express their creativity with an impressive and easy-to-use array of realistic tools like crayons, paint, stickers, stamps and chalk in a rainbow of colors and styles, and parents absolutely love the authentic “homemade” card without the mess!  Kids can even add their own photos and enhance them with fantastic frames, and recipients will appreciate the same superb photo quality they have come to expect from any American Greetings card.

I think our next creation will be to make a chart of who we are going to make one for next, our Macaroni Kid has a great idea actually… to Creatacard celebrating that, in a way, American Greetings brought her mommy and daddy together.

Get the free Creatacard app for iPad now in the iTunes App Store, and don’t forget to look for the upcoming Pick-A-Card option with a wide variety of card templates featuring your child’s favorite characters like Strawberry Shortcake™, Thomas the Tank Engine, Hello Kitty® and more!
